ʻAina-Based Lunch Program

As one of the six pillars of Big Picture Learning (Namahana’s academic framework), we embrace Hānai (eating healthy) as a key component to teaching both academically successful and healthy students. With this goal in mind, Namahana leadership is engaging with Thyme Culinary Market, owned and operated by Paulina Barsotti, to kickstart Namahana’s locally-sourced lunch program.

To whatever extent possible, the school will use locally-sourced foods, partnering with local farmers. Each quarter, students will participate in a tasting event to give feedback and make suggestions for lunch for the following quarter. Thyme Culinary Market is building long-term systems of collaboration with its network of farmers, including contracts and pre-season planning to ensure consistent supply. This is aloha ʻāina in action.
