Countdown to the First Day of School! Join Us on Monday, August 4 to Celebrate
Over a decade in the making, the countdown is on to the first day of school at Namahana! Many of our staff and kumu (pictured above) are busy preparing. As Namahana’s mentor from Big Picture Learning says, "this first day of school will only happen once.”
We’ll be celebrating in two ways on Monday, August 4:
7:45 AM
Temporary Kula Campus at 4551 Kapuna Rd
Cheer & Welcome Founding ‘Ohana
To kick off the first day of school, community members will be welcome to make signs and park along Kapuna Road to cheer the founding students and ʻohana on as they drive in for their first day of school at the temporary campus. Please arrive by 7:45 AM (or earlier), so students may be dropped off seamlessly. The gates will close promptly at 8:30 AM, when students will begin their first day of school.
9:00 AM
Permanent Site by Kīlauea Post Office
Historical First Day of School Community Photo
Right after, at 9 AM, the community is invited to join us at the permanent Namahana School site in Kīlauea (across from the Post Office) to take a historical "first day of school" photo. This photo will be memorialized in our future Resource Center—join us in showing the kids the community is fully behind them to build their permanent Namahana campus.
We hope to see you on Monday, August 4!
