Student Learning Snapshots

At Namahana, learning is based on the interests and goals of each student in relation to their community, which includes people and place. Curriculum must have real-world applications, and abilities are authentically measured by the quality of work.

Here, some highlights from the last few weeks around campus:

Problem solving is central to learning in Quantitative Reasoning classes. Instead of memorizing algorithms, students look for patterns and understand where equations and algorithms come from.

Papa Pikake working on neuroscience infographics. Topics they covered included parts of the brain and their function, left and right side of the brain, PTSD, optical illusions, how memories form, how sports benefit the brain, and trichromatic vision.

Papa Lehua and ‘Awapuhi learning two different propagation methods for native plants to use as restoration of our ulu ‘āina site and future campus.
