April ‘26 Academics Report
Here is a monthly check in on Namahana academics:
Students, kumu (teachers), and family met for their second Personal Learning Plan (PLP) meetings. PLPs were introduced last semester with 3 out of 6 of the learning goals, as students familiarized themselves with the goal-setting structure. All 6 goals are now established and in play. More about the goals can be found here (this page will be updated soon, we are currently updating our site with deeper academic content with year 1 data).
Three learning-based tech platforms were integrated and introduced—each of which are nationally respected for value data-driven instruction, reporting, and high student engagement:
IXL Learning is math focused. It is an adaptive, cloud-based platform that uses real-time diagnostic data to provide every student with a personalized ‘continuous diagnostic' map, ensuring they master foundational math concepts.
Beanstack is literacy focused. It is a specialized tracking tool that provides our kumu with real-time analytics on student reading habits, helping to identify trends and celebrate milestones beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Beacon is our grading platform. We recently commissioned Building 21 to develop and launch our custom-built grading system. Building 21 was incubated at Harvard and MIT. Beacon builds on our Big Picture Learning framework and allows for a more holistic perspective on a child’s growth. The report cards issued by Beacon can all be translated into the 4.0 GPA framework.
